Our Story

Hi, I'm Cheryl. I set up Good Dog Walking for a simple reason: I love dogs, and all animals, really. I can't remember a time without a dog or a cat in my life. Add in a love of being outdoors, and dog walking was the perfect job for me.


I wanted to build the kind of dog walking business I'd choose for my own pets, one built on love, affection and plenty of fun. I started in 2012, and the business has grown steadily ever since.


Good Dog Walking is now supported by a large local network of hand-picked and vetted dog walkers.

Every pet and household is different, so we tailor our dog walking and pet care to you. Whether you need a mid-morning walk five days a week, someone to feed the cat while you're on holiday, or just one walk a week, we can help. Our team is big enough to fit around your routine.



Professional, Insured and Fully Checked


Our walkers live locally, so they know the best walks in the area. Each has their own vehicle fitted with cages and harnesses to transport your dog safely, and wears our uniform so you can always recognise them.

For your peace of mind, every team member:


  • Is covered by Good Dog Walking's insurance
  • Holds an up-to-date DBS check
  • Holds a current canine first aid certificate

Updates Straight to Your Phone


Our client app sends you a notification when your walker arrives and when your dog is safely home. You'll also see where your dog has walked that day, plus updates on drinks, treats and toilet breaks.



It's the Little Touches


When you register, we match your pet with a regular walker you can contact directly about changes to their routine or care. Dogs on our walks also get a Good Dog Walking ID tag for their collar, with our number in case they're ever lost.


Even dog walkers need a holiday. When your regular walker is away, a teammate covers for them, so you never have to find cover yourself. Before any handover, we arrange a meet and greet so your pet feels relaxed with their new walker, who will know everything from favourite treats to whether your dog can go off lead.



Here When Life Doesn't Go to Plan


Emergencies happen, and they're even more stressful when a pet at home needs walking or feeding. If you need us at short notice, we'll always do our very best to help.

Founder & Director. Set up Good Dog Walking in 2012. Cheryl shares her home with Paul, a Sphinx x Devon Rex, along with humans, now 7 year old Dominic and 2 year old Olivia (apprentice dog walkers in the making) and fiancé Darren.

Linda

Cheryl's mum joined the team in 2017. She has always had a dog in her home since she was a child, and today it's Dotty, her rescue Parson Russell Terrier.

Craig is a full-time walker with his own dedicated pack, and he also covers holidays for the rest of the team. Mr Reliable! His spaniel, Ralph, is never far away.

Michelle joined full-time in 2017. She and Cheryl have been firm friends since working together at White House Farm in 2010. Michelle's dog is Freddie the Shih Tzu.

Poppy joined us in 2019 and now runs our Amble branch. We'll admit we first noticed her because her spaniel, Simba, was so cute, but we soon realised Poppy was a keeper too.

Sue started walking with us in 2020, and her beloved border terrier, Jack, comes along on most of her walks. Lucky dog!

Leanne and her companion Pheobe the blue Staffy. Leanne is one of the more experienced members of our team, dedicated to her dogs and never lets them down!

Founder & Director


Cheryl founded Good Dog Walking in 2012, combining her lifelong love of animals with her passion for the outdoors. What started as a small local dog walking business has grown into an established family-run business with a large network of trusted local dog walkers across Northumberland and the North East.


Despite overseeing the wider business, Cheryl remains very much hands-on, regularly walking dogs in and around Morpeth, with her family members also involved in the business. She takes pride in a personal approach, reliability, and the high standards of care that Good Dog Walking has been built on.

Cheryl's mum, Linda, joined the team in 2017 and shares her house with Dottie, the rescue parson Russell Terrier. 


Linda has not been without a dog in her household since she was a small child.

Michelle owns Freddy the Shih Tzu. 


Michelle first met Cheryl in 2010 when they both worked at White House Farm and have been firm friends ever since.

Morpeth Dog Walker & Gosforth Franchise Manager


Steph joined Good Dog Walking in 2022, bringing her love of dogs and the outdoors to the team. Her dedication and passion for providing reliable care and pet care saw her progress to become franchise manager of our Gosforth branch.


Steph continues to be hands-on with dog walking while overseeing the Gosforth team, ensuring that dogs in the area receive the same personal attention and high standards of care that good dog walking is known for.

  • Which areas does Good Dog Walking cover?

    Good Dog Walking provides professional dog walking and pet care services across Morpeth, Ashington, Amble, Hexham, Ponteland, Gosforth and surrounding areas of Northumberland and the North East.


    We have local walkers covering different locations, so please contact us to check availability in your postcode.

  • Will my dog have the same walker each time?

    Where possible, we aim to provide a regular dog walker so your dog can build a familiar and trusting relationship with them.


    If your usual walker is unavailable due to holidays or other commitments, we'll do our best to arrange suitable cover from another member of our local network.

  • How do I book dog walking or pet care?

    We use Pet Sitter Plus, our online booking system, which allows customers to register their pets, request services and manage their bookings.


    Once registered, you can provide important information about your pet's routine, behaviour and individual care requirements.


    All bookings are subject to availability and confirmation.

  • Can I choose an exact time for my dog's walk or pet visit?

    We operate within agreed two-hour arrival windows to allow our walkers to manage their schedules and travel between appointments.


    Although we cannot guarantee an exact arrival time, we'll always consider your pet's individual requirements when arranging care.

  • How many dogs are walked together?

    At Good Dog Walking, we limit group walks to a maximum of six dogs per walker.


    We carefully consider each dog's temperament, behaviour and suitability for group walks to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

  • How do I know if group dog walking is suitable for my dog? question

    Group walks can be a great way for sociable dogs to enjoy exercise, companionship and outdoor enrichment.


    However, not every dog is suited to group walking. We consider your dog's temperament, confidence and behaviour before recommending the most appropriate service.


    For dogs that prefer their own space, we also offer individual dog walks.

  • Do you provide puppy visits?

    Yes. Our puppy visits are ideal for young dogs who aren't yet ready for longer walks or need additional care during the day.


    Depending on your puppy's needs, visits can include feeding, toilet breaks, companionship, playtime and other agreed care.

  • Can you care for pets other than dogs?

    Absolutely. In addition to dog walking, we offer visits for cats, rabbits, chickens and other small household pets.


    Our pet visits can include feeding, refreshing water, cleaning litter trays, checking on your animals and collecting eggs from chickens, where requested.


    We understand that different pets have different routines and are happy to discuss their individual requirements.

  • Will I receive updates about my pet?

    Yes. We use Pet Sitter Plus to provide service reports, helping customers stay informed about their pet's care.


    Reports can include photographs, updates about activities and other relevant information following the visit.

  • What happens if my regular dog walker goes on holiday?

    We understand that customers rely on consistent pet care.


    If your regular walker is taking time off, we'll do our best to arrange suitable cover from another available walker in our network.


    We'll communicate any changes so you know who will be looking after your pet.

  • How do your dog walkers access my home?

    We discuss suitable home access arrangements with you before services begin.


    Key safes are our preferred option, as they provide a convenient way for an authorised walker to access your property without requiring you to be home.


    Any access instructions should be provided securely through our booking arrangements.

    All bookings are subject to availability and confirmation.

  • Do you offer one-off or occasional dog walks?

    Yes. We provide both regular and occasional dog walking services, subject to availability.


    Whether you need walks several days a week or occasional support because of work, appointments or other commitments, we're happy to discuss your requirements.

  • Can I book dog walking at weekends or on bank holidays?

    Weekend and public holiday services may be available depending on walker availability.


    An additional 50% surcharge applies to services booked on weekends and public holidays.


    We recommend booking in advance, particularly during busy holiday periods.

  • What makes Good Dog Walking different?
